Unfortunately, we can’t always protect ourselves, and this gift can feel like a burden. Very often, Empaths find out about their hypersensitive nature because they are close to burn-out and they’re trying to figure out what is happening to them.

If you recognize yourself in at least seven of the following statements, there is a high chance that you are an Empath and that you need help dealing with your “gift”!

  • When I meet someone, I feel almost right away if we’re going to “click”.
  • Other people’s emotions feel very contagious, mostly negative emotions such as sadness or stress.
  • It is very hard for me to go to crowded places (malls, movie theaters, grocery store), it is exhausting for me.
  • When I spend time with some people, it drains me and it can last for several hours or even days after I leave the person.
  • Sometimes, it also happens when I talk to this person “remotely”, through the phone or SMS.
  • I don’t have a lot of true friends.
  • I feel that people use me.
  • I feel that people don’t love me for who I am.
  • I feel like I am a magnet for toxic people.
  • Some of my friends criticize me because I sometimes “disappear” for several days without giving/asking news, but I need this to recharge my “batteries”.
  • I already lost people that I loved because of that.
  • I can’t live without my pets, I feel that they’re the only one who can understand me, who will never disappoint me, unlike humans.
  • Or : currently I can’t have pets (for family or professional reasons) and I suffer a great deal from it.
  • Sometimes I’m upset because some total strangers come to me out of the blue and tell me their life story, even very personal details, and they tell me that they felt they could completely trust me.
  • Some strangers have already told me this kind of things and said it was the first time they mentioned it to anyone. I like helping but there are some things I don’t need to hear!
  • I feel that I attract “losers” or “psychos” everywhere I go (public places, public transportation, at work), it is so tiring.
  • When I call my friends, they tell me all about their problems but they never ask how I’m doing.
  • People call me “the Shrink”: even if it’s not my job, I’m often told I’d make a great therapist.
  • I have a hard time dealing with negative people.
  • That being said, I feel lots of sadness and pity for people who are in pain.
  • When I was little (or even still now), I got picked on because I was to sensitive/emotional.
  • I often get picked on/criticized for being “too nice”.
  • I’m often told I should learn to protect myself and detach from other people’s issues, but it’s hard for me.
  • I don’t understand why that is perceived as a weakness, I don’t want to be mean nor selfish.
  • Deep inside of me, I instantly know when someone is lying to me (even if I don’t always listen to the “red flags”).
  • Oddly, I’ve already been “tricked” by liers or people who manipulated me.
  • I have already been in an abusive relationship (friendship or romantic relationship), or been in a relationship with a Narcissist.
  • I often get “tricked”, I am a bit of a “sucker”, and it’s the cause of a great deal of conflict with my partner/spouse or family.
  • I easily cry in front of sad or tragic things on TV, even when it is not a true story.
  • I also cry very easily in front of a beautiful artwork: at the opera, at a concert, at a ballet show.
  • It is very difficult for me not to cry at a wedding or a funeral (even when I didn’t know the deceased so well).
  • Watching the news has become very tough for me.
  • I can’t watch violent movies or horror movies anymore.
  • I cry when I watch a documentary on the planet or animal and their fate.
  • People call me “Mother Teresa” because I’m always “saving” someone.
  • I have already been in an argument with my partner/spouse because I take care of others more than of him/her.
  • I work or volunteer in something related to helping others: social services, medical world, etc. It is very tough, and painful, and sometimes destructive, but I wouldn’t be able to do anything else because I would feel useless.
  • I feel that I have a “mission” to accomplish to help others, but I’m not sure what it is because I can relate to all the “causes”.
  • I work or volunteer with animals or in the field of environment protection (veterinarian, animal protection, …) It is very draining and rough, but I feel that I have to do it.
  • I reduced or suppressed my animal products consumption because animal suffering is too hard for me.
  • It is sometimes hard for me to invite people over to my house (or I am very picky with who can be my guest) because I feel that my privacy is invaded when I have guests.
  • I can’t stand it when guests touch my stuff, even if they’re things that are out there for everyone to see.
  • I can’t stand hurting other people, it feels like I’m hurting myself.
  • I stayed in a relationship (friend or romantic) longer than I should have because I was scared to hurt the other person.
  • I jump from one job to the other, I can’t find my true purpose.
  • It is very hard for me to keep a job just to pay the bills if I feel useless with it.
  • I wish money didn’t exist, and that there were no financial obligations so I could help others for free.
  • I have already been psychologically or sexually harassed by a coworker or my boss.
  • I have already left a job because competition between coworkers was unbearable for me.
  • I currently had to stop working because I can’t work, it is too exhausting for me.

In addition to the above statements, if you recognize yourself in the affirmations below, your situation requires immediate help. At that point, you should already have talked to a doctor. What you need to do now, is learning how to clean, maintain and protect your energy!

  • I have chronic pain (stomach pain, back pain, sore muscles, …) but my doctor doesn’t take me seriously or says it is just “in my head”.
  • I went through many tests to identify where this pain comes from, and nobody can tell me what is going on with me.
  • I am in pain and medication doesn’t help.
  • I suffer from depression and I can’t escape it.
  • I have to do drugs, drink alcohol and/or have addictive behaviors (sex, food, gambling) to escape pain.
  • I suffer from chronic fatigue.
  • I’m close to burning out.

If you recognize yourself in these affirmations and you need help, I can teach you tools to learn how to protect yourself. Your Empathy is a true gift, and it doesn’t need to hurt you like this! ![/vc_column_text][stm_iconlist icon=”stmicon-portfolio_next” css=”.vc_custom_1518037681635{margin-bottom: 20px !important;border-top-width: 1px !important;border-right-width: 1px !important;border-bottom-width: 1px !important;border-left-width: 1px !important;padding-top: 5px !important;padding-right: 5px !important;padding-bottom: 5px !important;padding-left: 5px !important;border-left-color: #000000 !important;border-left-style: dotted !important;border-right-color: #000000 !important;border-right-style: dotted !important;border-top-color: #000000 !important;border-top-style: dotted !important;border-bottom-color: #000000 !important;border-bottom-style: dotted !important;}”]See also :
